Purpose-built Shoreditch venue offers stage to new and established comedians.

Kitsch cafe provides lots of laughs

This live stand-up comedy venue has a certain distinctive character of its own. With its bright red and yellow interior, blend of cheesy tunes and obscure rock, Tex-Mex meals and Bedroom Bar (complete with bed), some might say it’s a bit of an odd mix. Somehow it works though, and with free entrance on Wednesdays no one’s complaining. If you’re feeling tired after a day on your feet, it’s worth noting they do say laughter’s the best medicine…

Why should I go there?

London’s famed for the quality of its comedy, and this quirky East End venue is no exception. While you’ll probably have to buy some food and drinks, these are at pub prices – it’s certainly a lot cheaper than going to some of the more famous clubs in the West End. Wednesday Nights it’s ‘Open Mike Night’, which showcases new comedians. While you might think this could be hit and miss, the upbeat atmosphere is such that even if there are a few duds you’ll still have a great time. If you’re after a drink, check out the shooters list, which features delights such as “Beryl the peril” and “down the plug ‘ole.”

Where is the café?

It’s in Shoreditch at 66/68 Rivington Street, London EC2A 3AY. The nearest tube is Old Street.
