Despite being a huge chain, Wetherspoons offer homely English food and drink at homely English prices.

Cheap booze and English food

Wetherspoons pubs are the stalwart of cheap English boozers, with traditional British fodder and good value ale. Don’t worry though, it’s not all students and drunken louts – the chain recently won the award for best pub toilets in the UK (seriously). Often its venues are located in spectacular converted buildings or have funny names like The Asparagus. If you’re after affordable, filling food, a proper sit down - and maybe a (relatively) inexpensive beer or two – Wetherspoons is a decent bet.

Price examples (January 2008)

Breakfast sandwich £1.89
Traditional breakfast £2.49
Beer & Burger with chips £4.49
2 main meals for £6.49 or £7.99 depending on location – such as cottage pie, chips & peas, penne pasta & meatballs with parmesan cheese or fish and chips

You can get 30 minutes free wifi by asking at the bar.
