Created 40 years ago, Pizza Express is the creation of English entrepreneur Peter Boizot and Italian designer Enzo Apicella. In an age of dull décor and lackluster restaurant experiences, they were eager to develop a dramatically different dining concept and bring Italian tastes (both literal and metaphorical) to the UK High Street. While a host of Italian chains have sprung up since then, Pizza Express remains the original and arguably the best.
